Contact Manny
(Lead vocal by Martha Trachtenberg)
To the west with his dream, to his
bride-to-be, Youngman Connor rode
And he rode straight and true,
through to
Mommas Scripture, portrait
of his sister, Daddys rifle- his Kentucky Long.
No law, no justice on
the wilderness side came gunman plundering
Poor Sarah watched and wept as her daddy died, the pistol thundering.
Almost there, with a prayer as the
sun set, and the rain began to fall
Darlin Sarah, so much I long
to share, count the blessings in this new frontier
Out in the darkness, in the
cold and the rain . . .stood Youngman at the gate.
Lord please find me, dont let this darkness blind me, pray deliver, in my time of need.
Guide me through, let my shot ring
true, as its written, an eye for an eye
Long Rifle roared with
vengeance into the night and then to Sarah he ran
he ran
There he married Sarah Carey .
Ducky (You Be Beautiful Too)
There you go again, runnin to your room and then
Hidinout, you ride it out
Curled up deep inside of your own little world
Push it all away, every thing you heard em say
Let it drop, make it stop
Never, let em see how it hurts
little girl
I know
its tough for you in school
I know
those kids can be so cruel
The little pretty ones, pointin fingers poking fun
Put you down, push you around
And nothing you can do can make them take it all back
Laughin at your hair, laughin at the clothes you wear but
They dont know, nothing though,
Deep inside youre diamonds and gold . . thats a fact
I know
theyre treating so bad
I know
its making you so sad
But Ducky you be strong
And Ducky you be true and
And Ducky you be
beautiful too
Like a precious pearl, the beauty lies within you girl
Let it out, never doubt
A better day is comin girl
just give it some time
So I dont wanna see another tear dont wanna hear no
Sighin now, cryin now
Cause baby dont you know that this all works out fine
And
the gray becomes a blue
And your sun come shinin through
So
Ducky you be strong
And
Ducky you be true and
And
Ducky you be beautiful too
Yeah,
Ducky you stand tall
And
Ducky you get through
And
Ducky you be beautiful too
Instrumental Section
So Gimme a smile
Bah-dah da da dah,,,
And
all the gray will turn to blue
And all
your sun come shinin through
But
Ducky you be strong
And
Ducky you be true and
And
Ducky you be beautiful too
Yeah,
Ducky you stand tall
And
Ducky you get through
And
Ducky you be beautiful, Ducky you be beautiful, Ducky you be beautiful too
Soldier
Well Im comin

kiss your lips like never before.
Yeah it wont be long, till I see your face, but Im
writing this letter baby just in case (but)
Yeah they got me good, yeah they hurt me bad. But Im
comin home baby now so dont cha be

This aint no way, this aint no way this aint
no way to say goodbye.
And I can almost hear you call my name,
I can almost see you, touch you , feel you home
I gotta get home, home sweet home
Home, I gotta get
home, home sweet home
Your love is my hope your name is my prayer
I pray as I wait, for those buddies of mine
That swore theyd never leave a brother behind.
This aint no way, this aint no way this aint
no way to say goodbye.
(home, you know you gotta get home)
This aint my time, this aint the place and this
aint no way to say goodbye.
(home, you know you gotta get home)
Well Im comin on home
Sheila (give me back my heart)
Give me back my heart if you dont want it anymore
Take away these chains if you dont need me like before
You know that lovers song you used to sing, well I cant hear it
anymore but
the bell still rings, still rings for you
Give me back my life if you wont share yours anymore
Ill give you back your key, if you dont want me at your door
They say the truth can be a bitter pill, though it may hurt me baby it dont
kill so
tell me, tell me, tell me true
Sheila - say whats on your mind
Sheila - am I gonna find
that Ive been loved but lost and left behind
Sheila its gotta be this way

You know that lovers song you used to sing, well I cant hear it
anymore but
the bell still rings, still rings, for you

Somewhere South (of True Love and Romance)
(lead vocal Ami Jane Russell - Jim
Walther on backup vocals)
The highways of my heart, well they don't run through true love's ways
and every intersection leads to lonely nights and desperate days...
(They say) some roads may end in love, that precious, everlasting kind
but I can't seem to find the sign that points the way . . . to mine.
Well, Ive done my share of cryin, Ive had my poor heart shattered, I've
lost the things that mattered one too many times - I'm heading South.
Down Solo Avenue, then up through Disillusioned Lane
Yeah, Ive paid a toll at every stop Ive made . . . along the way.
Well, I know what Ive been missin, I know what Ive been hopin
That southbound lane is open baby that is where Im bound
Im heading
Somewhere, south of True love and Romance, shy of
Heartbreak
and far from Promises un-kept.
Somewhere, right outside Wild Abandon, straight through Passion,
and deep down into No regrets.
Ive been thinkin bout a change, a new direction I might take
I think I'm gonna cruise the wild and wicked streets
of my Southern States
Cause, Ive had enough of heartache
Ive had enough of sorrow
I know that my tomorrow brings nothing but the same
so Im heading
Somewhere, south of True love and Romance, shy of
Heartbreak
and far from Promises un-kept.
Somewhere, right outside Wild Abandon, straight through Passion,
and deep down into No regrets
A Good Run
(back up vocals Laura Hull, drums/percussion
Joe Scott)
Its been a good run, better than most get.
A promise each sunrise, a comfort each sunset
Its been a long road, and Ive walked that fine line
Its been a good, good run.
Been dealt a fair hand, theres little I regret
Ive held my child close, no stronger does love get
For every dark day, then always the sun shined
its been a good, good run
Bridge:
Never been a lucky one like some seventh son of a seventh son
but Ive had a dream or two of mine come true just like any one.
Wouldnt trade this life of mine for another place or another time
Cause here I find, satisfied mind.
Ever the winds change and ever the tides turn
Fortune may follow or fortune may fade
Maybe my luck holds or maybe this all folds
But its been a good, good run
(instrumental)
Wouldnt trade this life of mine for another place or another time
Cause here I find, satisfied mind.
Its been a good run, mmm mmm mmm
Santa Fe
(vocal Kathy Fleischmann )
I'm missing my Santa Fe, and the world I knew in a better day.
My heart aches for Santa Fe, and I'm going home, yes I'm going home.
They said we were almost through, we'd be shipping out in a week or two.
I knelt by my tent and prayed for my Western World . . . and my Western Ways.
There, where the setting sun lays carpets of gold.
Where the Rio Grande, runs straight through my soul.
Santa Fe, Santa Fe.
I carried the picture close, a reminder here of what matters most -
the photo of you and me on that final day, down in Santa Fe..
I stared at the city fires and the darkened smoke from the temple spires.
I fell as the shot rang out, and I slipped away, to my Santa Fe.
There, where the setting sun lays carpets of gold.
Where the Rio Grande, runs straight through my soul.
Santa Fe, Santa Fe, Santa Fe.
I'm walking in Santa Fe, in the world I know and the place I'll stay.
My heart rests in Santa Fe, now I'm home, yes I'm home.
A Simple Explanation
(vocal Laura Hull)
I could write a letter
A simple explanation
Maybe you would find it comforting.
Once my life was shining
Once the music filled me
Once you were a part of everything
and then the waves came
rolling, crashing, pounding, smashing
And then the world changed - your voice, your touch, your eyes
fading.
I said I cant see you anymore. Baby, I cant see you anymore.
I could make things better
A little consolation
Surely you would find it comforting
Winter Times Three
(vocal Martha Trachtenberg)
A blanket of blue for her love she wove, a gift for his going away.
A farmer he was but the war had come and they called him "to soldier" that day.
Choices were few - run away, join the Gray, join the Blue.
The Union Band played as they marched that day
and many farewells could be heard
"A blanket my love, a reminder of the warmth and the woman that waits"
"Woman abide, when this ends I'll return to your side".
He'll return, He'll return someday.
Maybe Summer, oh maybe Winter ⦠he'll find a way.
He'll find a way.
Winter times three since he went away and Winter times three did she wait
The child in her arms with his father's name and the dream of the day they would meet,
all that remained and the promise to find her again.
He'll return, He'll return someday.
Maybe Summer, child maybe Winter "he'll find a way. He'll find a way".
A rider appeared on an Autumn morn and slowly he came into view,
Tattered and torn such a sight forlorn then he smiled and she suddenly knew.
"promise kept true" - he was wrapped in a blanket of blue.
Under Blue, Blue Moon
(vocal Kathy Fleischmann)
Somethin's broken in this tired town, the rain keeps fallin' and the sun stays down,
the crop is thin, and the lights grow dim under blue, blue moon.
Main and Maple - there's a single store, just the basics no one needin' more.
The faded "Welcome" in the window glows under blue, blue moon.
This old town had its day. This old town fades away beneath a blanket blue and gray.
Cotton King in all the glory days, the bitter harvest with its toll to pay.
All left abandoned and then set ablaze under blue, blue moon.
Gone the Manor, gone the servants too - the land forsaken by the chosen few.
Those remaining learned that nothing grew under blue, blue moon.
This old town had its day. This old town fades away beneath a blanket blue and gray.
Americana with a twist of fate, the rusted hinges on the busted gates,
two battered pickups on a moonlight date under blue, blue moon.
Quarter mile from county line, beyond the highway and mobile sign,
a couple stranded with the ghosts of time, under blue blue moon.
This old town had its day. This old town fades away, this old town had its day . . .
Twenty Degrees
Twenty Degrees, and
Im waiting out in this cold
Maybe youll will,
maybe you wont, well I dont know.
Cant I hope for
something more somehow
oh, oh, oh
A fitting farewell , so
darlin dont cha be long
Find the place we were
meant to be
oh, oh, oh lets go.
Maybe youll show,
maybe you wont, well I dont know.
Ride That Train
(vocal Larry Ytuarte with Manny/Laura Hull backup vocals)
Why I ride, Ha ! I can't say
maybe it's the Clickety, clickety, clackety song the iron plays
Or the fading towns behind me and the promise of a new life found along the way.
Westward ho Hey! that's what they say
Maybe Amarillo, maybe San Antone or Santa Fe.
When that whistle starts a blowing I know it's time for goin', rollin' on.
Yeah, I'm gonna ride that train again Yeah, I'm gonna ride that train again
Gonna Take the Line that never ends yeah, I'm gonna ride that train again.
In the wind, ha! It's all I know
Rollin' over hills, over plains, over borders there I go
And a comfort does surround me, like a fortune all around me when we roll
Yeah, I'm gonna ride that train again Yeah, I'm gonna ride that train again
Gonna Take the Line that never ends yeah, I'm gonna ride that train again.
Woman don't cha cry, Ha! Time has come
It's better for us both if I just collect my things and run.
Where the world will never find me, I don't need a star to guide me, these tracks are
right beside me all the way.
Yeah, I'm gonna ride that train again Yeah, I'm
gonna ride that train again
Gonna Take the Line that never ends yeah, I'm gonna ride that train again.
Dale and Roy (Music/lyrics Ken/Manuel Ytuarte)
(vocal Manny with Laura Hull)
Dale I've been trying, hoping you'd return my call.
Dale quit your hiding, it's a crime to make a grown man crawl.
You, got no reason to lock me from you lovin' ways.
You, your heart is freezin' don't make me wait another day
Roy, in the city, I really love the life I found.
Roy, if you were with me, you'd only try to bring me down..
I can make a new start, if you'd only let me try.
I could play a new part, the part of me that needs to fly.
Just let me fade from your picture - I don't need no man, you can be sure!.
Girl From The North-County Line
(vocal Laura Hull)
When the winter calls, and the snow first falls
Under blankets of white, in the quiet of night he recalls.
Was a time of love, hearts so young, stars above
but the fragile world shattered and all that had mattered was gone.
With the girl from the North County Line
Yes the girl, not the marrying kind.
And she talked about a life outside our town.
Like the Great Divide, on the farthest side
of a mountain, a valley, an ocean, a trail he can't find.
Gone the girl from the North County Line
Yes the girl, not the marrying kind
How she talked about a life outside our town.
And the seasons fly, and the years go by.
He still thinks of the look in her eyes as her train pulled away.
Louisiana
(vocal Laura Hull)
Rows and rows of weeping willow, I'm lying on
my pillow, daydreaming
Summer days C'est savoir faire, blue-eyed boys with golden hair in my daydream.
I know my work has gone undone, I know the fields have been left behind. and oh Louisiana,
just killing time.
The hammock gently sways, somewhere the music plays such a sweet thing.
Beneath the shady trees, my baby waits for me, in my daydream.
Another day slides by, a small delay in this working life , oh Louisiana, God's blessed
your skies.
A whisper on the breeze, so softly calls to me . . . in my daydream.
Don't leave me, lover stay. Don't waste this precious day or this sweet dream.
I know my work has gone undone, I know the fields have been left behind and oh
Louisiana, just killing time.
oh Louisiana, just killing time.
I Don't Know Why
Baby know your love is good but your love it hurts me too
Maybe that's why I wonder if we'll ever see this through.
I don't know why, I'm tangled up inside
Maybe it's the way you hold me close and love me through the night.
Maybe it's the way you look at me when things ain't going right.
I don't know why, I'm tangled up inside I don't know why, you're never satisfied.
Maybe this love is wrong Maybe the time's not right
Maybe we're not that strong but baby just hold on tight
baby there's the way you come to me with loving sweet and fine
but baby there's the way you turn your back and don't pay me no mind.
I don't know why, I'm tangled up inside.
That's The Way It Should Be
We've been standing on the party line all day, all day
We've been drinking just to pass the time all day, all day
And that's the way it should be, that's the way it's gonna stay
We've got something that a man can t buy all day, all day
We keep pumpin' till the well goes dry all day, all day
And that's the way it should be, that's the way it's gonna stay
Relax a little boy. Cool down, cool down, cool down.
Wake up that tired horn. Make some funky sounds
We've been standing on the party line all day, all day
We've been drinking just to pass the time all day, all day
And that's the way it should be, that's the way it's gonna stay!
